BIO: "My wife pointed to a plant stand in her country magazine and said 'make this'. Within a week I was finished and had a gift for my mother-in-law's mother'sday-birth-aversary (all 3 fall around the same day). The stand is made from poplar with mortise and tenon joinery for the frame. My first try at ever making tenons, and I forgot the table saw blade was still tilted; had to trim them a bit to square things up. Each leg splays out at 2°. The top is held on by wooden clips. The bottom braces are screwed into the legs and the screws are counter-sunk (I really need to get a plug cutter!) The bottom shelf is a tight fit and since the legs are rock-solid, friction is plenty to hold it in place. This was my first major woodworking project!" Mike Costanzo
