BIO: I got the inspiration for this project from Steve Ramsey at www.woodworkingformeremortals.com. I am currently deployed overseas in Kuwait (as of 7 July 12) and I thought it would be a good idea to make myself a mallet that I could use in my shop back home. It was a really simple build, especially with Steve’s video on youtube Make a wood mallet. I obviously changed mine a bit, and I kept the head of the mallet square and just rounded the corners while I sanded. I also put a coin of my unit in the front to help give it a little extra something as a keepsake. It’s made out of hard maple and walnut, and finished with mineral oil. I plan on putting leather on the ends like Steve did, but I don’t have access to that here so I’ll wait and finish it up when I get home. Thanks again Steve for sharing your knowledge and wisdom of woodworking and for the inspiration!
